For convenience the Zulu Beadwork is divided into two sections:

1]Ethnic Colours(the more traditional bright opaque colours ie blue, red, yellow, turquoise, white, orange, green, lime etc)
2]Fashion Colours
(shiny transparent colours ie gold, silver, glitter as well as a variety of transparent colours.)

Zulu Beadwork is a traditional skill that has been passed down from generation to generation. The beadwork is unique in its patterns and colours, and historically was used as a means of conveying feelings and messages. It is often used in clothing and accessories for social engagements such as engagements and weddings. The glass beads were originally brought to Southern Africa by European traders who used them to barter for goods. Nowdays they are imported to support the local beadwork industry. The beadwork is produced in cottage industry programs, whereby groups of Zulu woman gather and produce beadwork in a social and creative enviroment. The beadwork helps to support local communities as well as provides a creative outlet. Zulu beadwork is used to produce jewellry, fashion accessories, Christmas decorations as well as functional items for the home.
More Zulu Beadwork items can also be viewed in the Ethnic Gifts section.
